    On World Intellectual Property Day the association “For legal content!”, together with Microsoft Latvia, SQUALIO, and the Computer Software Copyright Association (DAA), made intellectual property topical by trying to include most of its aspects: legal, factual, emotional and psychological, and trying to pinpoint the risks of piracy and the use of illegal content.

    Pirate Profile infographic has been created
    Before going on the joint TV service provider inspection raid, a presentation in the NEMMC Monitoring Centre was held. The topic was the Pirate Profile infographic that shows the activities of illegal service providers on various TV, film and internet service distribution platforms like satellite, cable and Internet Protocol. It allows everyone to begin to recognise a pirate and to be aware of the risk of being in the hands of one.

    The number of users of illegal TV services has shrank by 20%
    With determined effort, this year the State Police has reduced the number of illegal TV users by 18,000, all of which was done in just three criminal proceedings, and several more are currently under investigation. So informed Ints Ķuzis, Chief of the State Police, when signing a cooperation agreement with the association "For Legal Content!"

Who we are
The association “For legal content!” was founded on 7 October 2015. Its founders are several TV service providers and audiovisual content owners: SIA Lattelecom, SIA Baltcom, ĀKF Viasat AS Latvia filiāle, and SIA Baltijas Mediju Alianse. At the moment the association has 10 members: SIA Lattelecom, SIA Baltcom, ĀKF Viasat AS Latvia filiāle, SIA Baltijas Mediju Alianse, SIA Forum Cinemas, Association of Latvian Performers and Producers (ALPP), Cinamon Holding OOO, SIA Acme Film, “Wide Media” LLC, SIA “Dautkom”..

The members of the association are actively fighting against the distribution of TV and films without the permission of the producer or supplier. They also facilitate legal broadcasting of the TV on the telecommunications market, maintaining active cooperation with the competent authorities of Latvia, namely the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEMMC), the State Police Economic Crime Enforcement Department (SP ECED), the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), the State Revenue Service (SRS), the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia (MoC), the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Latvia (MoF), the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia (MoT), associations of the information and communication technology industry etc., and get involved with specific proposals suggested by the industry representatives to develop binding laws and regulations in order to minimise and eradicate the activities of illegal TV service providers in Latvia.

Cooperation

Since 2016, when the association "For Legal Content!" (link to WHO WE ARE) actively started working on its long-term and short-term goals (link to OUR GOALS), it has started intensive cooperation with the competent authorities of Latvia as well as international organisations and associations, and its members have joined pre-existing task forces, as well as initiated new task forces within the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Justice, the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia, etc.
